In order to improve the education quality, the Dean of the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada has instructed all study programs to refine their curriculum designs in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 53 of 2023 on Quality Assurance in Higher Education. “The expectation is that by January 2025, the curriculum preparation will be completed, and all study programs will be able to prepare their course plans by March 2025,” said Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., at the Graduate School of UGM’s Curriculum Workshop held last October.
In response, the Master’s Program in Higher Education Management (MMPT) of the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada held a curriculum development workshop on Wednesday, January 15th 2025, at the Artotel Bianti Hotel, Yogyakarta. This workshop was a continuation of the curriculum workshop held in December, focusing on curriculum revitalization in line with the new policy.
The workshop was attended by lecturers and administrative staff from the MMPT program. Dr. rer. nat. Ir. Wahyu Supartono, the Chief of the MMPT Program, emphasized the importance of balancing theory and practice in the implementation of the new curriculum. “In addition, graduate competencies need to be strengthened in managerial, leadership, and research aspects,” he added.
Two key recommendations emerged from the workshop. First, the MMPT Program will transform the curriculum by adjusting the course structure in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 53 of 2023, which is project-based and interactive. Second, to facilitate the curriculum transformation process, a revitalization team will be formed consisting of expert lecturers. This team’s task is designing the new curriculum in line with the MMPT Program’s vision.
Focusing on project-based learning is a strategic step to enhance student engagement and practical skills, fostering global partnerships. The MMPT Program aims to prepare graduates with knowledge and also be ready to face contemporary challenges in higher education management by integrating projects into the curriculum.
Furthermore, the workshop highlighted the importance of collaboration between academics, alumni, and stakeholders to ensure that the curriculum meets the needs of students and the global job market.
