The Dean of the Graduate School (SPs), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., stated that international accreditation serves as a guarantee for study programs to meet global education standards. “There is a need to adjust the curriculum by converting study loads to international standards like ECTS (European Credit Transfer System) to ensure that UGM SPs graduates are competitive in the global job market,” said Prof. Malkhamah.

In line with this initiative, SPs UGM held a Curriculum Workshop on October 2-3, 2024, in the Auditorium on the 5th Floor of the UGM Graduate School Building. The workshop aims to refine the curriculum to be implemented in the 2025/2026 academic year. As directed by the Dean, the new curriculum will align with ECTS standards, which are deemed capable of accurately reflecting student performance based on the workload required to complete their studies. “Under ECTS, students’ tridharma activities can be evaluated, thus recognizing student productivity,” added Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, Ph.D., Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Affairs at SPs UGM.

The workshop was attended by stakeholders, including chief of master’s and doctoral programs, quality assurance coordinators, and academic service managers within SPs UGM. They participated in presentations and discussions to finalize the necessary curriculum adjustments for the upcoming academic year. This collaborative effort aims to prepare graduates to secure decent employment that meets global market demands.

In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this initiative reflects a commitment to quality education in developing countries, including Indonesia. By adopting ECTS, UGM enhances its educational framework and fosters global partnerships that can lead to improved academic and professional opportunities for its graduates.

At the conclusion of the workshop, Prof. Malkhamah expressed optimism about SPs UGM’s readiness to implement the new curriculum. “Thank you to everyone for their productive contributions during the workshop, resulting in a shared commitment to ongoing improvement and innovation in educational practices at SPs UGM.”
