Yogyakarta (14/01), the Master of Disaster Management Study Program (MMB) of Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School carried out an educational visit to the Banyu Bening Rainwater School which is located in Rejodani, Sardonoharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman Regency. This community initiative was founded by Mrs Sri Wahyuningsih or Bu Ning, which aims is promoting the use of rainwater as a sustainable resource.

This visit involved students Muhamad Irfan Nurdiansyah, Muhammad Taqy, and Silfani, who were enthusiastic about learning innovative water management practices. Cak Jie, a senior environmental activist who has been involved in nature conservation since the New Order era, also participated in this visit. His extensive experience in environmental advocacy provides students with insight into the importance of sustainable practices in water management.

Ibu Ning said that Indonesia has abundant rainfall, but there are still many areas in Indonesia that face clean water difficulties. Thus, the establishment of the Banyu Bening Rainwater School is an alternative solution for utilizing rainwater.

“The founding of this school is to provide awareness to the community that rainwater is not waste, but a resource that can be utilized optimally if managed properly,” added Mrs. Ning.

During the visit, students learned various rainwater collection techniques and filtration systems that can be applied in households. The visit emphasized the need for cooperation in addressing water scarcity issues between local communities, educational institutions and government agencies to create effective solutions for water management.
