Yogyakarta (20/09/2024) – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) held a public lecture as part of the orientation for hundreds of new students. The event featured Prof. Dra. Raden Ajeng Yayi Suryo Prabandari, M.Si., Ph.D., Coordinator of the Health Promoting University (HPU) and Chair of the Task Force for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) at UGM, who provided insights on the importance of health promotion and creating a safe campus environment.

Prof. Yayi explained UGM’s role as a Health Promoting University (HPU), committed to creating a healthy, prosperous, and friendly campus environment for the entire academic community. She emphasized the importance of maintaining physical, mental, and social well-being to produce high-quality, high-achieving human resources among students, faculty members, and staff. Prof. Yayi also shared her personal practices, such as regular physical activities including cycling, swimming, and line dancing, to maintain both physical and mental health.

In addition to discussing physical health, Prof. Yayi highlighted the importance of preventing and addressing sexual violence on campus, in line with UGM Rector’s Regulation No. 1 of 2023. She outlined the steps UGM has taken through the PPKS Task Force to create a safe and prosperous campus environment. Prof. Yayi provided detailed explanations of prohibitions, preventive measures, and the reporting process available to victims of sexual violence at UGM. This initiative aims to encourage all students to take an active role in maintaining safety and security within the campus environment.

Through this public lecture, SPs UGM hoped new students will understand the importance of maintaining both physical and mental health, as well as participating in efforts to prevent sexual violence. This event marks the first step in building a healthy, safe, and welcoming campus for the entire academic community.
