The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) held the second session of monitoring and evaluation (Monev) to assess the progress of research reviewed by the Graduate School’s reviewers. This Monev activity took place on August 30th 2024. This event is one of the efforts to ensure the research progresses according to the set targets and objectives.

One of the lead researchers, Dr. sc. techn. Adhy Kurniawan, S.T., focuses on supporting food and energy sovereignty by addressing the issue of sedimentation in the Mrica Reservoir, which has resulted in a reduction of water storage capacity and has affected the surrounding environmental quality. During the Monev session, the research team reported progress on the collection of sediment and water samples, as well as preliminary analysis of the impact of sediment flushing on water quality upstream and downstream of the reservoir.

Dr. techn. Khabib Mustofa, S.Si., M.Kom., Vice Dean for Finance, Assets, and Human Resources of SPs UGM, who served as the Monev reviewer, expressed appreciation for the research team’s hard work and encouraged the research to produce applicable strategies for addressing the impact of sediment flushing. “This activity is important not only for supporting energy sovereignty but also for maintaining environmental sustainability,” he said.

During the evaluation, the team also presented future plans, which include reservoir operation simulations and the development of environmentally friendly flushing strategies. This progress report received positive feedback from the reviewers, who hope this research will contribute to reservoir management policies in Indonesia.

The results of this Monev will serve as a reference for the research team in preparing the final report, as well as scientific publications to be published in reputable journals. It is hoped that this research will support the implementation of better and more sustainable reservoir management, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly related to clean energy and water resource management.
