Yogyakarta (15/8), Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School (SPs UGM) seeks to contribute to the realization of good university governance for UGM. One of them is the participation of the SPs risk officer team in the UGM Risk Management Information System (SIMR) Socialization and Implementation Workshop which was held in Multimedia Room 1, UGM Hall Building with facilitators from Risk Workshop International (RWI) Consulting.  This activity is part of good governance efforts in accordance with the mandate of the Board of Trustees (MWA) for the 2017-2037 period.

This workshop aims to improve understanding and implementation of risk management practices in various work units at UGM. This event emphasizes the importance of good governance as mandated by the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, which encourages effective university governance through a comprehensive risk management strategy.

Also present was Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., ASEAN.Eng., Dean of SPs who provided direction to the SPs team regarding the identification of risk profiles in work units. Apart from that, the SPs team was also represented by the Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and Cooperation, Head of Office, Coordinator for Academic and Student Affairs, as well as several SPs staff representing the risk register team.

“UGM SPs participated in the SIMR Implementation Workshop, this is part of ongoing development to support the University’s achievements. SIMR is new at UGM, and we are all learning together. “This workshop is a series of quite long processes, starting from March 2024,” said Ika Krisnadewi, S.Psi., M.Sc, Head of the SPs Administration Office when interviewed in the socialization session.

SPs has been preparing since early March 2024 by forming a work unit risk register team whose task is to input and update work unit risks through the work papers provided and currently the data input and monitoring process can be accessed through an integrated system.

One of the key messages conveyed is that risk mitigation is not to expose work unit weaknesses, but rather to empower them to identify, recognize and control potential risks. This proactive approach is very important to build a culture of awareness and preparedness within the university, especially for the SPs UGM academic community.

The SIMR workshop is a significant step forward in UGM journey towards effective risk management and good governance. UGM SPs is ready to face the complexity of risks in the educational landscape, which ultimately contributes to achieving the SDGs, especially in the field of basic education.
