Yogyakarta, January 22nd 2025 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs-UGM) continues to demonstrate its commitment to improve the quality of education by applying for international accreditation from ASIIN (Accreditation Agency for Degree Programs in Engineering, Informatics, Natural Sciences, and Mathematics). In preparation, SPs became the first host in the coordination activity agenda for the preparation of ASIIN involving study programs from three faculties under the Life and Food Science Cluster.
ASIIN accreditation is one of UGM’s strategic steps in supporting international recognition of its academic quality. The study programs involved in the process of preparing this form include S1 Food and Agricultural Product Technology and S2 Food Science and Technology from the Faculty of Agricultural Technology, S2 Biomedical Engineering, S3 Biotechnology, and S3 Environmental Science from the Graduate School, and S3 Biology from the Faculty of Biology.
Prof. Dr. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S.Hut., M.Agr., Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation of the UGM Postgraduate School in his speech emphasized that international accreditation is about formal recognition and an effort to continue to improve the quality standards of education performance in UGM. “This process is part of our commitment to ensure that we have global competitiveness and are able to contribute to the international community,” he said.
This activity is designed to build synergy between study programs in compiling SAR documents in accordance with the standards set by ASIIN. Participants from each study program asked questions and shared views and strategies to meet the accreditation criteria, including data integration, curriculum evaluation, and evidence of achievement of the tri dharma of higher education in the discussion session.
UGM sees ASIIN accreditation as an opportunity to strengthen global partnerships. UGM can expand collaboration with universities and research institutions in various countries, as well as increase its appeal to students on an international scale with this accreditation. At the end of the activity, participants created and agreed on a strategy to optimize the SAR preparation process by preparing a follow-up plan involving the entire preparation team. Dr. Zuliyati Rohmah, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Eng., as the speaker on this agenda is optimistic and hopes that through this joint effort will produce satisfactory results and have a positive impact on the institution and academic community. It will help encourage UGM to continue to affirm its commitment to becoming a leading university at the international level, in line with its vision as a pioneer of education that contributes to the development of science and technology for humanity with these small but strategic steps.
