Students of the Environmental Management Studies (MPL) program carried out a field course for the Environmental Management course on June 8th 2025. This activity targeted three key locations that represent a variety of landscapes and environmental potentials: Madurejo (Prambanan Subdistrict, Sleman), Nglanggeran, and Ngingrong.
The accompanying lecturers and coordinators for this activity were Dr. Langgeng Wahyu Santosa, S.Si., M.Si., and Prof. Dr. Lutfi Muta’ali, S.Si., M.SP. The field course aimed to provide students with direct understanding of the forms and dynamics of landscapes, as well as the potentials and challenges of regional resources from geomorphological, geological, and ecological perspectives.
The first location, Madurejo, was selected for its representation of karst landscapes and intensive land-use activities. Here, students observed water resource management and land-use practices influenced by local geological conditions.
The second location, Nglanggeran, is known as a geopark area and serves as a strategic site to study the interconnections of conservation, tourism, and local community empowerment. At this site, students evaluated the role of the community in conserving the area and also examining ongoing ecological dynamics.
Meanwhile, the third site, Ngingrong, provided students with the opportunity to observe cave systems and unique subterranean ecosystems, as well as the environmental management challenges in karst areas under increasing human pressure.
Students are expected to integrate theoretical knowledge, through this hands-on fieldwork, with real-world situations and to develop comprehensive spatial and ecological analysis skills.
