The Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University held a workshop on the topic “Strengthening Institutional Capacity and Synchronizing Cooperation” at the 5th Floor Auditorium of the UGM Graduate School on Thursday (16/01). This event was attended by the academic community within the Graduate School to discuss and formulate strategies for building broader cooperation networks with stakeholders.
The event was moderated by Dr. Leonard Chrysostomos, M.Th., and opened with a speech by the Dean of the UGM Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D. She emphasized the importance of aligning the university’s vision with the goals of the Graduate School, in her speech, especially in promoting sustainable education practices.
Prof. Dr. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S.Hut., M.Agr., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation, provided guidance on the strategic plan of the workshop. He emphasized the need for collaboration among the academic community to improve the quality of education and research, which are vital components of Tridharma.
The first speaker, Prof. Dr. apt. Puji Astuti, S.Si., M.Sc., from the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations, discussed UGM’s cooperation policy direction and projections. She emphasized the importance of a cohesive approach in partnership development, which includes Education, Research, Community Service, Good University Governance, Campus Ecosystem, and Atmosphere Development.
The second speaker, Dr. Agr. Sc. Ir. Hatma Suryatmojo, S.Hut., M.Si., IPU ASEAN Eng., from the Directorate of Academic Studies and Innovation, conveyed the need for the Graduate School to analyze the current situation before planning strategic steps. This evaluation is crucial to understand the extent of the goals achieved and measure the effectiveness of the efforts made.
Quoting what the speakers said, the moderator also emphasized that times have changed, so new innovations are needed to establish cooperation. “We cannot always rely on UGM’s big name,” said Leonard.
Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and discuss through a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) before closing the workshop, aimed at internalizing cooperation achievement targets into the work plans of the cooperation and study programs. This interactive session was actively participated in by each study program representative. In the FGD session, it was conveyed that each study program is expected to have at least 6 cooperation agreements, 267 million in creative funds, and at least 1 international publication to meet the performance targets for 2025.
