Yogyakarta, October 17th 2025 – The Media and Cultural Master Program, The Graduate School, Universitas Gadjah Mada, held its Colloquium for Master Students on Friday, October 17th 2025. The event took place from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in Rooms 201, 202, 207, and 208 of the Graduate School Building Unit 3, UGM.
The colloquium is a regular academic forum organized by the Master’s Program in Media and Cultural Studies as a platform for students to present the initial ideas of their thesis research. Through this activity, students receive constructive feedback from discussants, facilitators, and peers to strengthen their conceptual framework and research methodology.
The event began with a registration and morning coffee session from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. in the Graduate School corridor area before participants and discussants proceeded to their respective rooms according to cluster assignments. The colloquium was divided into four clusters led by the program’s faculty members: Dr. G.R. Lono Lastoro Simatupang, M.A., Budiawan, S.S., M.A., Ph.D., Dr. Phil. Ramayda Akmal, S.S., M.A., and Ratna Noviani, S.I.P., M.Si., Ph.D.
Each cluster was accompanied by facilitators, including Rizky Indra Dewangga, M.A., Adhani Juniasyaroh Emha, M.A., Laillia Dhiah Indriani, M.A., and Elok Santi Jesica, M.A. During each session, every student was given 15 minutes to present their research plan, followed by a 15-minute discussion and feedback session from faculty members and other participants.
This year’s colloquium was attended by 26 students from the 2024 cohort, divided into four clusters. The presented topics reflected the program’s diverse academic focus areas, including digital media studies, popular culture, gender representation, and identity politics. Through this forum, students were encouraged to integrate critical theories with Indonesia’s socio-cultural contexts and to situate their research within the broader landscape of contemporary cultural studies.
The event, after all presentations concluded, continued with a lunch and prayer break from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. in the corridor area. The colloquium is expected to serve as an important milestone for students in the thesis-writing process, while also fostering an inclusive and productive academic atmosphere within the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada.
