The Center for Population and Policy Studies (PSKK) at Graduate School UGM has just organized the opening of the 2024 Summer Course (15/07/2024) titled “Future of Work & Workforce Innovation” with students from Tamkang University. This event involves participants from the Master’s Program in Leadership and Policy Innovation and the Education & Future Design program. Previously, Tamkang University has established academic cooperation with universities in Indonesia, including Universitas Gadjah Mada, with student exchanges or collaborative programs such as the current summer course. The purpose of this event is to provide Tamkang students with the opportunity to learn together in understanding innovative learning processes through design thinking, aiming to shape forward-thinking perspectives.
The opening ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Ahmad Maryudi, S.Hut., M.For, Chief of the Master’s Program in Leadership & Policy Innovation, Dr. Pande Made Kutanegara, M.Si., Ph.D., and Dr. Dewi Haryani Susilastuti as representatives from PSKK UGM. Prof. Jian-Bang Deng and Prof. Chun Chunda represented Tamkang University. The event began with the singing of the Indonesian national anthem “Indonesia Raya” and the UGM Hymn, followed by speeches from the Chair of the Summer Course Committee, representatives of the MKIK students, Prof. Jian-Bang Deng & Prof. Chun Chunda, and the Chief of the MKIK Program at Graduate School UGM. This was followed by a video presentation profiling Universitas Gadjah Mada, a closing session, and a group photo.
Additionally, there were non-formal mini games involving Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) divided into 4 groups, each given pictures of typical Indonesian regional foods such as Padang rice, Makassar coto, gudeg, and pecel lele. Each group had to guess and learn about the origins, preparation methods, and types of ingredients used according to the food pictures received. These games were aimed to introduce participants to regional and traditional foods from various regions in Indonesia.
The Summer Course lasted for 2 weeks, from July 15th to 25th, 2024. A total of 22 participants were from UGM’s MKIK students and 16 from Tamkang University. In addition to academic activities, there were cultural exchange activities, including a visit to the Museum of Universitas Gadjah Mada. This agenda aimed to educate participants about the history of UGM, its role in national development, enhance their insights and knowledge, and provide an educational tourism experience. The program continued with a cycling tour around the UGM campus, starting from the museum area, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Graha Sabha Pramana Building (GSP) UGM, UGM Library, and finished at the Central Building or Balairung of Universitas Gadjah Mada. These visits were expected to benefit foreign participants in understanding the UGM campus environment better.
