Students of the Master’s Program in Leadership and Policy Innovation (MDKIK) at Graduate School (SPs), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), conducted a field study titled “Karyasiswa” to De Tjolomadoe, Colomadu, Karanganyar, Central Java. This event took place on July 5th, 2024, and involved 9 students who are recipients of the scholarship program from the Center for Development, Education, and Training of Planners (Pusbindiklatren) under the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas.
The arrival of the Pusbindiklatren Bappenas MDKIK students was warmly welcomed by the CEO of PT Sinergi Colomadoe, I Nyoman Dana. Nyoman delivered a brief presentation titled “Leadership and Policy Innovation at De Tjolomadoe.” De Tjolomadoe has transformed from a sugar factory that ceased operations in 1997 into a historical and cultural tourism site since 2018. According to Nyoman, this transformation represents a significant achievement in preserving cultural diversity while promoting sustainable development.
“In the future, De Tjolomadoe will continue its commitment to leadership and policy innovation by leveraging technology, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, and expanding its global network,” Nyoman stated. He also emphasized the importance of basic education in providing understanding and appreciation for the historical value of such sites. Students were encouraged to observe how technology plays a crucial role in the restoration and modernization of these facilities.
During the discussion session, students and Nyoman exchanged thoughts on the importance of preserving cultural heritage through innovative approaches. The students also conducted a tour of the De Tjolomadoe complex to witness firsthand the blend of historical architecture with modern technology.
One of the participants, Utari Nur Safitri, expressed, “It is an honor for us to have the opportunity to pose questions, criticisms, and suggestions directly heard by the CEO of PT Sinergi Colomadu. We believe the museum is already excellent, strengthened by management support, but there are aspects that can still be maximized to further engage visitors.”
“I personally thank Pusbindiklatren Bappenas, SPs UGM, and the MDKIK program for facilitating this field study visit,” Safitri added. The students also visited Pura Mangkunegaran, following a previous field study visit to Pura Pakualaman, as part of their ongoing learning facilitated by MDKIK.
