UGM Environmental Management Master Program students carried out Field Work Lecture (KKL) activities which were carried out on January 22nd – 23rd 2025. In this session the activities focused on the ecotourism area of Banyuwangi Regency.
Students were divided into 2 groups consisting of group A and group B. Group A went to the oldest market in Banyuwangi, namely Genteng Market and Kutai National Park (TNK) Alas Purwo. Alas Purwo National Park is one of the tourist destinations in Banyuwangi. There are several tourist attractions that can be visited, including Padang Savana Sadengan, Pancur Beach, and Istana Cave. Along the way you can meet long-tailed monkeys and several other animals.
Group B visited Tirto Kemanten Waterfall. The journey to the waterfall is quite difficult because the topography is quite steep and the path is not adequate for tourists. The location of this waterfall is also prone to landslides. This waterfall is also used for community activities, including agriculture. The next is location Mondoleko Hill, which is no longer operational since Covid-19. The last location is Telunjuk Raung Waterfall, the view is very beautiful and the water is very clear. However, this location is prone to landslides.
Next, the two groups headed to Pulau Merah Beach and prepared an activity report which would be presented to the District Environmental Service (DLH). Banyuwangi. Pulau Merah Beach in Banyuwangi offers extraordinary appeal as a leading tourist destination with beautiful panoramas and challenging waves. However the obstruction such as the lack of public facilities and environmental awareness still need attention. The developments from the local government are needed.
“This KKL activity in Banyuwangi provides an opportunity for me and my friends to apply the knowledge we have gained directly in the field and have a pleasant experience because we can find out about the tourism potential and uniqueness of the Banyuwangi community. “I feel proud to be able to contribute to KKL activities and hopefully the data from the activities we produce will be useful,” said Muhammad Fanani, an MPL student who took part in KKL activities.
