On Friday (November 8th), Universitas Gadjah Mada’s Graduate School (SPs UGM) held a workshop titled “Opportunities and Potential for Collaboration Following an International Partnership Exploration Visit to Timor Leste.” This event aimed to discuss the outcomes of SPs UGM’s recent visit to key institutions in Timor Leste, opening doors to strategic partnerships across various sectors of education and research. The workshop served as a forum for stakeholders within SPs UGM to assess the benefits and challenges of cross-border collaboration to enhance the quality of education and research in both regions.

The visit to Timor Leste, which took place in late October, marked an initial step by SPs UGM to expand its international network. During this visit, SPs representatives met with several strategic organizations, including Universidade Nacional Timor Lorosa’e, Incanto International Institute, and other notable institutions. Through these engagements, SPs UGM seeks to build stronger synergy to support sustainable educational agendas, including improvements in human resource quality and opportunities for students and educators alike.

This collaboration is viewed as a foundational element in SPs UGM vision’s embodiment of establishing a broad collaboration network. SPs UGM is committed to creating opportunities for student exchanges, enhancing research quality by strengthening inter-institutional relations and developing collaborative projects. This approach aligns with SPs UGM’s objectives to reinforce the role of higher education in empowering communities through innovations that benefit society at large.

The event underscored the importance of shared vision among all SPs UGM programs, especially in building robust and continuous connections with external parties. This commitment is also seen as part of UGM’s efforts to support sustainable educational partnerships, ultimately enhancing the competitiveness and relevance of higher education on a global scale.

As a concrete step, the discussions in this workshop will be formulated into a joint strategy to encourage SPs UGM’s involvement in various collaborative programs. SPs UGM is optimistic about boosting its capacity to facilitate relevant and sustainable education, aligned with the institution’s grand mission and global educational objectives by strengthening international partnerships.

Through these initiatives, SPs UGM aims to solidify its position as an educational center that not only excels locally but also actively participates in global initiatives that benefit the wider community.
