Yogyakarta (4/7) – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) received a visit from the National Transportation Safety Committee (KNKT), Directorate General of Land Transportation, PT Pertamina Patra Niaga, and the Rewulu Fuel Terminal. The purpose of their visit was to discuss plans for cooperation on regular health check-ups for road transport drivers.

The delegation was warmly welcomed by the Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D. In this discussion, SPs UGM also involved several directors and faculties at UGM, including the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK), the Directorate of Partnerships and Global Relations, the Directorate of Research, and the Academic Hospital.

The discussion was very engaging. It started with concerns about road transport accidents caused by drivers’ health problems, which is a particular concern for KNKT. From numerous investigations attributed to human error, it can be concluded that drivers’ health is often neglected. Various factors contribute to the neglect of road transport drivers’ health. Several parties provided input on the research plan.

The conclusion of this discussion is the companies employing road transport drivers are expected to enhance partnerships, quality education, and healthy lives and well-being. We hope this initiative can significantly contribute to reducing the number of accidents and improving road safety.
