Yogyakarta, December 3rd 2024 – The Master’s Program in Bioethics, Master’s Program in Biomedical Engineering, Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Biotechnology, and the Master’s and Doctoral Programs in Population Studies at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Graduate School (SPs), in partnership with the University of Dundee (UoD), successfully secured the Transnational Education (TNE) Grant from the British Council (BC).
The winning proposal, titled “Embedding TNE: Broadening and Deepening Equitable Partnership between UGM and UoD”, focuses on enhancing higher education quality by contributing for the inclusive education and addressing gender equality in education access. This program aligns with SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 5 (Gender Equality), while also supporting UGM’s 17th goal of public service, which emphasizes partnerships for sustainable development.
The program’s activities include staff and faculty exchange, hybrid research super-seminars, module participation as elective courses for students, and capacity building through the OMERO GAMMA-PATH Project. This initiative, developed during the pandemic, aims to strengthen educational and research capacities. Through this collaboration, SPs UGM and UoD aim to mobilize their respective strengths to achieve shared educational and developmental goals.
As an initial step, coordination and discussion meetings were held on Tuesday, December 3rd 2024, attended by representatives of the participating programs. The meetings focused on planning and defining the implementation stages of the program.
This one-year collaboration, set to begin in 2025, is expected to enhance human resource capacity at both institutions, significantly improving the quality of education and research. Furthermore, it is a strategic move to foster academic innovation, expand access to higher education, and make meaningful contributions to sustainable development.
