The Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (SPs UGM) held a publication clinic aimed at master’s and doctoral students from various programs/interests at SPs UGM in order to provide guidance to students in the process of writing journal articles. The clinic took place over three days, from April 23rd-25th 2025, on the 5th floor of the Graduate School Building at UGM.
“Without intending to overlap with the roles of thesis/dissertation advisors, this publication clinic aims to provide feedback on students’ scientific articles that will be published in academic journals. We hope that this clinic will give students a platform to improve the quality of their articles and motivate them to publish in reputable international journals,” explained Dr. Leonard C. Epafras, the Chief of the Publication Clinic.
Several benefits of the publication clinic include: helping students understand the structure, style, and rules of writing a good scientific article; choosing the appropriate journal; citation techniques; as well as enhancing skills in problem identification, data collection, analysis, and interpretation of research results.
This period’s publication clinic was attended by four master students and nine doctoral students. Prior to attending the clinic, students were required to register and submit a draft of the scientific article they wished to publish in a journal. This aimed to select students who are truly serious and prepared for a consultation session regarding their scientific articles.
There were two lecturers, in this session, acting as reviewers: Dr. Yohanes Tri Mastoyo, M.Hum., an expert in language and literature, and Prof. Dr. Apt. Sismindari, SU., an expert in medicine and health sciences. Each student was given approximately 30 minutes for a face-to-face consultation with the reviewers.
“The hope is that in the future, this publication clinic can be held more frequently, allowing more students to be facilitated and receive guidance in writing their scientific articles,” said one of the participants of the publication clinic.
