Yogyakarta, October 24th 2024 – The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) held the graduation ceremony for the First Period of the 2024/2025 Academic Year, releasing a total of 164 graduates. Among them, 140 graduates were from the master programs, while the remaining 24 were from the doctoral programs.

Dr. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S.Hut., M.Agr.Sc., Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Collaboration at SPs UGM, shared some interesting graduation statistics. This period’s graduates came from a wide age range. The youngest master’s graduate is 22 years old, while the oldest is 45. For the doctoral program, the youngest graduate is 31 years old, and the oldest is 58. These statistics highlight that the pursuit of knowledge knows no age limits, with both the young and the old showing remarkable dedication to learning.

“We certainly appreciate this as part of lifelong education—there are no boundaries to seeking knowledge, no matter when or where we are,” Widy remarked.

Furthermore, the graduation ceremony marked the conclusion of the academic journey for the graduates, yet also signified the beginning of a new chapter filled with challenges and opportunities.

“This moment is not the end of a journey, but rather the start of a new phase brimming with challenges and fresh opportunities,” said Muammar, a Master’s Graduate in Religion and Cross-Cultural Studies, who achieved the highest GPA in the master’s program with a 3.98.

In addition to Muammar, 80 master’s graduates and 12 doctoral graduates received cum laude honors, with four doctoral graduates achieving a perfect GPA of 4.00.

SPs UGM expressed its pride in all the graduates of this period and encouraged them to continue advancing their knowledge and contributing positively to society. With SPs’ multidisciplinary strengths, the graduates are expected to become agents of change with a broad academic perspective.

“SPs is multidisciplinary, where various fields of knowledge mixed together. So, we hope that those who have graduated are now equipped to understand other disciplines, other people’s ways of thinking, and have a broader horizon,” stated Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dean of SPs UGM, in her address.

SPs UGM remains committed to producing superior human resources who are professional, competent, ethical, and cultured, contributing to the advancement of Indonesia.
