“The border area is one of the regions that must receive serious attention from various parties, including SPs UGM. This region has great potential, both positive and negative, in the future of the Indonesian nation and state,” said Muhammad Sulaiman, ST, MT, D.Eng., Coordinator of the Community Service Unit at SPs UGM, during the briefing for KKN Border Area Students in Belu District, NTT (15/4).
Further, Sulaiman, who is also a Field Supervisor, explained the importance of students in conducting physical and socio-cultural mapping before going to the KKN location. This mapping could involve alumni (Kagama), local educational institutions, and other organizations. This includes collaborating with neighboring countries that directly border the KKN location. Their role is very important to support the success of KKN activities in the border area.
An equally important activity is the development of digital literacy for the border community. We should not let the border community remain unaware of technological advancements. Moreover, they are in an area that is directly connected to another country. This becomes an important activity to enhance national resilience, explained Dr. Leonard Chrysostomos Epafras (Expert Team of SPs Cooperation Unit).
This briefing activity was held in the SPs Meeting Room A and was attended by representatives from KKN border students from various faculties at UGM. Also present at the event were several staff from the PkM and SPs Cooperation team.
