On Tuesday, August 20th, 2024, the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) organized the first Seminar and Webinar Series with the topic of Urban/Commuter Trains and Airport Trains. This event was conducted both offline at the Auditorium Room, 5th Floor of the Graduate School UGM, and online via Zoom Meeting. The seminar took place from 9:00 to 11:30 AM WIB and was attended by experts and practitioners in the railway industry.
The seminar was moderated by Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, Ph.D., the Dean of SPs UGM, with the main discussant Mr. Ir. Ika Putra, M.Eng., Ph.D., an academic from UGM. The speakers at this seminar included:
- Mr. Mohammad Risal Wasal, Director General of Railways, represented by Mr. Awang Meindra, S.SiT., MT, Head of the Traffic Sub-Directorate.
- Mr. Tuhiyat, President Director of PT. MRT Jakarta, represented by Mr. Panji Arum Bismantoko, Corporate Strategy Division Head.
- Mr. Asdo Artriviyanto, President Director of PT. KCI, represented by Mr. Gotro Nur Riyadi, VP Commercial KAI Commuter.
- Mr. Mochamad Purnomosidi, Head of LRT Jabodebek Division, represented by Ms. Kristina Octaviana, Vice President of Passenger Transport and Information Technology.
- Mr. Porwanto H Nugroho, President Director of PT. Railink, represented by Ms. Indah Suryandari, Director of Administration and Finance.
This seminar highlighted various topics relevant to the development of railway transportation in Indonesia, particularly in urban and airport areas. Mr. Awang Meindra from the Ministry of Transportation discussed the government’s obligations in providing public services in the railway sector, including the government’s role in operating urban and airport trains. He also emphasized the importance of policies that ensure subsidies are well-targeted, especially for KRL users.
Meanwhile, Mr. Panji Arum Bismantoko from MRT Jakarta presented the performance targets and achievements of MRT Jakarta for the 2015-2024 period, focusing on connectivity, service, and safety. He also discussed the importance of programs aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a consideration for international loan approval.
Mr. Gotro Nur Riyadi from KAI Commuter highlighted smart city innovations as part of commuter train development. Ms. Kristina Octaviana from LRT Jabodebek emphasized that although LRT is a new mode of transportation, it has implemented advanced technology and is ready to compete in mass transportation services.
In the discussion session, various issues such as transportation integration, subsidy policies, and the challenges of implementing transit-oriented development (TOD) were highlighted. Questions and responses from participants, including academics and practitioners, further enriched the insights on developing a more efficient and integrated railway transportation system.
The event concluded with a group photo. The seminar successfully provided comprehensive insights into the challenges and opportunities in the development of urban and airport railways in Indonesia, with encouraging constructive discussions among the various stakeholders.
