Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) has undertaken many activities beneficial to the broader community. These activities are closely related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Unfortunately, these activities have not been widely publicized. This was stated by Prof. Dr. Wening Udasmoro, S.S., M.Hum., DEA, Vice Rector for Education and Teaching at UGM, during the Training of Trainers on SDGs at the 8th-floor Auditorium, Tahir Building, Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK UGM).
“UGM has long been a model for many, with numerous activities already conducted, but we still fall short in terms of reporting. The activities we undertake are certainly related to the SDGs. Reporting on SDGs is crucial so that the work we have done more visible to the wider community,” said Prof. Wening.
The UGM Graduate School also participated in this event, represented by the Head Office, Coordinator of Academic and Student Affairs, and three staff members from the public relations department. The speakers for the event were Ir. Sentagi Sesotya Utami, Ph.D., and Dr. Mardhani Riasetiawan, M.T. Sentagi shared tips on how to create SDGs-oriented reports by writing about the indicators outlined in the SDGs.
“UGM already has an SDGs office, and many people come seeking assistance with SDG-related issues. For example, help with land conflict resolution, support for gender equality for women working in construction companies, environmental issues, and more. We hope that our contributions can be disseminated through SDGs reporting. SDGs are important as they serve as an assessment tool internationally,” said Sentagi.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mardhani provided hands-on practice using his own tools to aid in report writing. Dr. Mardhani hopes that the educational staff responsible for writing reports can utilize these tools, as the more frequently they are used, the better the reports will become.
The UGM Graduate School, through its public relations team, will soon implement the knowledge gained from this activity. With 25 multidisciplinary programs, many activities have already been conducted and are closely related to SDG points. “We will improve our website reporting by including more SDG points in news articles, and we will strive to create a dedicated SDGs page on the Graduate School website so that SDGs-related reports can be easily found,” said Ika Krisnadewi, M.Sc., Head of the UGM Graduate School Office.
