Yogyakarta, May 31st 2025 – In order to welcome World Environment Day, the Master of Environmental Science Program of the Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University held a series of environmental care activities, one of which was a scientific seminar held at the Parangtritis Geomaritime Science Park. This seminar was held in a hybrid manner so that it could reach participants, students, lecturers, and environmental science practitioners more widely.

This seminar presented two speakers. The first speaker was Dr. Ir. Ammy Nurwati, M.M., who serves as Secretary of the Directorate General of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Conservation (KSDAE) of the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia. Dr. Ammy delivered a talk about “Biodiversity Conservation in Indonesia” which provided an in-depth understanding of Indonesia’s rich biodiversity and the challenges of its preservation.

The second speaker, Daru Aji Saputra S.Si., Founder of the Yogyakarta Conservation Action Foundation (Fourkey Yogyakarta), discussed “The Role of the Young Generation in Ending Plastic Pollution and Preserving Coastal Ecosystems” with a focus on practical strategies to involve the young generation in conservation efforts.

“The 2025 Environment Day commemoration activity Funtastic Without Plastic: Save Nature for the Future held by the Master of Environmental Science is a real manifestation of the Environmental Science Program concern for environmental problems and efforts to establish the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Under the big theme of World Environment Day 2025, namely Ending Plastic Pollution, this series of activities is expected to increase community participation in overcoming the problem of plastic use in everyday life and concern for the environment.”, said Lucky Novian, chairman of the committee for this series of activities.

Achieving the goals of this activity, will require collaborative synergy from the government and the local community. This certainly has a significant impact on establishing a clean environment and a balanced ecosystem.

“I hope that the collaboration between Government Institutions, Academics, and the general public as happened in this series of events can continue to be continued to unite to establish a better earth.”, he concluded.
