The Population Studies Master Program at Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, organized a Field Study Program (Kuliah Kerja Lapangan/KKL) as part of the Community Service (PkM) component of the university’s Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi from October 10th – 14th 2025. The activity took place in Kayen Village, Pacitan Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency, East Java.

Twelve students from the Population Studies Master Program were welcomed by Mr. Setyo Darmoko, the Chief of Kayen Village, who provided an introduction and overview of the village’s conditions and community life. The welcoming event was also attended by several hamlet chiefs (Kasun) who helped facilitate the students throughout the field study activities.

The theme of this year’s field study, “Demographic Resilience of Households in Kayen Village, Pacitan Subdistrict, Pacitan Regency, East Java,” focused on topics such as population transmigration, the elderly people, and local livelihoods in order to assess the village’s economic and social conditions.

The students were accompanied by their academic supervisors: Prof. Dr. Sri Rum Giyarsih, S.Si., M.Si., Dr. Djaka Marwasta, S.Si., M.Si., and Dr. Sri Rahayu Budiani, S.Si., M.Si. The field study was carried out with great enthusiasm, as students not only learned how to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings, but also had the opportunity to develop social, communication, and professional skills.

This program is expected to enhance students’ competencies and competitiveness in the job market. The Field Study Program will conclude with a presentation of the final report before the supervising lecturers, as well as the publication of an academic article that is expected to provide broader benefits to various stakeholders.
