Yogyakarta, January 12th 2026 — The Environmental Management Master Program Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPS UGM), successfully organized the NEXUS Webinar (Network & Environmental eXchange for Up-skilling in Sustainability) as part of its academic efforts responding to the complexity of sustainable development challenges. The webinar, held online via Zoom meeting, was attended by participants from academic, professional, and student communities.

The organization of the NEXUS Webinar was motivated by increasing global pressures due to climate change, environmental degradation, and social inequality, which directly affect people’s quality of life and the direction of national development. This webinar was designed as a space for reflection and exchange of ideas to strengthen the understanding of sustainability as an environmental issue and also the result of close interactions among environmental, social, and governance dimensions (Environmental, Social, and Governance/ESG).

The webinar series featured speakers from various strategic backgrounds who offered complementary perspectives. Prof. Dr. Lutfi Muta’ali, S.Si., M.T. from Universitas Gadjah Mada emphasized the importance of transforming Community Empowerment Programs (PPM) from approaches that are administrative and compliance-oriented toward geospatial-based Corporate Social Innovation (CSI). According to him, this approach enables companies and institutions to design empowerment programs that are more targeted, data-driven through spatial analysis, and capable of creating shared value for both communities and corporations.

The geospatial approach in CSI is considered to have great potential to improve the effectiveness of development interventions, particularly in regions with diverse social and environmental characteristics. The integration of spatial data with ESG aspects also strengthens evidence-based decision-making, allowing sustainability programs to generate measurable long-term impacts.

Meanwhile, apt. Hidayat Setiadji, M.Si. from PT Bio Farma presented the company’s experiences and strategies in integrating sustainability principles into its core business strategy. He emphasized that ESG is not merely a reporting obligation, but a strategic instrument to enhance corporate competitiveness, build stakeholder trust, and ensure long-term business sustainability.

Ir. Saprian, S.T., M.Sc., M.T., IPM., ASEAN Eng., Founder and CEO of Environesia Group, in the following session, highlighted the urgency of strategic environmental management amid the global climate crisis. He stressed that environmental issues have shifted from merely compliance requirements becoming determining factors for business sustainability and workforce readiness.

Through interactive discussions and case study-based sessions, the NEXUS Webinar is expected to enhance participants’ conceptual understanding. In addition, NEXUS is designed as a foundation for a sustainable and continuous sustainability network.
