The effort to raise community awareness about climate change through mitigation and environmental adaptation activities, the Master of Higher Education Management Program (MMPT) at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is assisting RW 16 Kampung Kepuh, Klitren Village, in preparing for the 2024 Climate Village Program (PROKLIM) competition organized by the Yogyakarta City Government.

The PROKLIM initiative, which is a regular government agenda, aims to engage all residents in climate change mitigation efforts. The MMPT UGM team provided technical assistance in writing the 2024 PROKLIM proposal, as well as support for field visit preparations.

A coordination and briefing meeting was held at the RW 16 Kampung Kepuh Community Hall on Friday, September 27th 2024, attended by various parties, including the Head of Klitren Village, LPMK Leaders and Management of Klitren Village, the Head of Kampung Kepuh, the RW Chair of Kampung Kepuh, RT and RW Chairs of Klitren Village, Agricultural Field Extension Officers from Gondokusuman Kemantren, the Head of the MMPT Study Program, and the MMPT UGM team.

Dr. rer. nat. Wahyu Supartono, Head of the MMPT UGM Study Program, emphasized the importance of collaboration between academics and the community in addressing climate change challenges. “Through this assistance, we hope to help RW 16 Kampung Kepuh residents identify concrete solutions for climate change mitigation and adaptation. This is a tangible form of our academic service to the community,” he stated.

He further added that active community participation is crucial in preserving the environment. “We are not only focusing on success in the PROKLIM competition but also on sustainable changes that will bring long-term benefits to this community,” he continued.

Through this program, RW 16 is expected to implement concrete steps, such as waste management and environmental preservation. With a solid strategy, RW 16 is anticipated to compete at its best in the national-level PROKLIM competition, bringing positive impacts to the environment and surrounding communities.
