Yogyakarta, July 2nd 2025 – Fifteen students of Higher Education Management Master Program (MMPT) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) had the opportunity to participate in a direct study visit to the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region IV for West Java and Banten on June 24th 2025. This activity was an integral part of an experience-based learning process, designed to enrich students’ understanding of higher education governance practices in the field.
The visit was led by the Chief of the MMPT UGM Program, Dr. rer.nat. Ir. R. Wahyu Supartono, accompanied by Ir. Djoko Luknanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., Dr.Phil. Vissia Ita Yulianto, and the supporting academic staff. The students involved in this visit were Auliya Putri Lestari , Baiq Nabila Tira Lestari , Chynara Wilma Fakhirah N. , Fitra Annisa Hikma , Fuad Khalis Mahmud , Rachmawati , and Rani Dewayani.
MMPT UGM students, through direct discussion sessions with the leadership and staff of LLDIKTI Region IV, gained a deep understanding of the institution’s strategic roles and functions, including institutional development, human resource management, student activity facilitation, and strengthening information systems through PDDIKTI. Students also gained insights into good practices in higher education institution management from several leading Private Higher Education Institutions (PTS) such as Universitas Pamulang and Jakarta International University, which are highly relevant to campus physical facility management course material.
“This direct experience serves as important preparation for developing a more holistic and critical perspective on the dynamics of higher education governance in Indonesia,” explained one MMPT student. They noted the importance of practical competencies, foreign language proficiency, critical thinking skills, and readiness to face global challenges emphasized by the industry.
Strategic topics such as increasing the number of S3 qualified lecturers, during the discussion session, MMPT’s contribution in designing inclusive education policies, forms of MBKM collaboration, and models of university-industry cooperation were also discussed. The broad opportunities for internships and research within LLDIKTI’s environment for MMPT students also became a key point, demonstrating strong synergy between academia and the professional world.
This visit strengthened students’ awareness of the important role of regulators in the higher education ecosystem and how the MMPT program plays a crucial role in preparing competent and reform-minded higher education managers.
