Yogyakarta, July 2nd 2025 – Eight students from the Higher Education Management Master Program (MMPT) program at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) directly experienced contextual learning through a study visit to the Postgraduate School (SPs) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) in Bandung on Monday, June 23rd 2025. This field trip, part of the Curriculum Development course, aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of the dynamics and governance of higher education institutions outside the classroom.
The group of participating students are Adinda Zadati Nabila, Amar Ma’ruf, Bina Rahmatika, Dina Julzia, Ellisa Fitriana, Pandhuri Jayadi, Putri Ihda Inayah, and Putrinanda Aisya N. S.. They were accompanied by the Chief of the MMPT UGM Study Program, Dr. rer.nat. Ir. R. Wahyu Supartono, as well as lecturers Ir. Djoko Luknanto, M.Sc., Ph.D., and Dr. Phil. Vissia Ita Yulianto.
MMPT students, during this visit, had the opportunity to directly explore SPs UPI’s academic governance, internationalization strategies, study program development, and implement academic quality practices. They also learned about the long history of SPs UPI, which originated from the Postgraduate Education Institute in 1968, evolving into its current internationally reputable institution.
Insights into SPs UPI’s modern physical facilities, such as the Auditorium , SPs Building , Smart Class , and laboratories, provided a concrete understanding of the infrastructure supporting postgraduate education. Discussions with SPs UPI’s leadership also enlightened students on how quality educational services can be consistently applied across multi-campus settings , as well as efforts to enhance the quality of scientific publications through mandatory publication policies and comprehensive mentoring.
“This activity provides valuable experience for MMPT students in directly understanding how the curriculum can serve as a bridge between the world of education and the world of work,” according to the student report. Furthermore, this visit also reinforced awareness of the importance of industry involvement as a stakeholder in the process of curriculum development and higher education governance.
