Yogyakarta, July 2nd 2025 – The Postgraduate School (SPs) of Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) affirms its position as an internationally reputable center for advanced education in Asia by 2025, focusing on the development of educational and non-educational sciences. This was revealed during a study visit by Master of Higher Education Management (MMPT) students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) on Monday, June 23rd 2025, where they were directly welcomed by the Director of SPs UPI, Prof. Dr. Juntika, M.Pd.
SPs UPI is designed to support the effective implementation of postgraduate education through professional, transparent, and accountable governance. Its organizational structure is led by a Director assisted by two Vice Directors, and supported by the SPs Commission, Quality Control Unit (SKM), and Quality Control Group (GKM) to ensure high academic standards.
One of the key strengths of SPs UPI is the strategic role of its SPs Commission in coordinating doctoral promotions across all UPI campuses, including branches like Cibiru, Serang, Purwakarta, Tasikmalaya, and Sumedang. “This coordination is not merely administrative, but also guarantees the equivalence of academic quality and scientific integrity produced,” explained Prof. Dr. Juntika, M.Pd.. Every dissertation must undergo strict evaluation, including plagiarism checker with Turnitin , which is also applied to S1 and S2 levels, reflecting a healthy academic culture.
SPs UPI currently houses 11 active Master (S2) and Doctoral (S3) study programs, with the Teacher Professional Education (PPG) program being the largest, having approximately 20,000 students out of UPI’s total student of about 52,000. The diversification of study programs, including the development of seven new programs such as Data Science and Doctoral Higher Education Management & Leadership, demonstrates SPs UPI’s adaptive response to future scientific and professional needs.
Internationalization efforts are also becoming a priority. SPs UPI has admitted foreign students from various countries such as China, Japan, Korea, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Timor Leste , particularly in Arts and Sports study programs due to cultural relevance and contextual learning approaches. Furthermore, SPs UPI is actively involved as part of ProSPER.Net, an international network under the United Nations University – Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS), to promote sustainable education and global research collaboration.
Regarding quality assurance for scientific publications, SPs UPI mandates publications for S2 students (nationally accredited journals) and S3 students (reputable international journals) as a graduation requirement. This is supported by publication assistance programs, publication clinics, lecturer-student research collaborations, and an internal review system before submission to journals. “This strategy aligns with the university’s internationalization mission and is an integral part of the research-based academic culture,” stated SPs UPI officials.
