The Master of Higher Education Management Study Program (MMPT) Gadjah Mada University Postgraduate School is holding guest lecturers or lectures by guest lecturers to support students’ academic writing skills. This activity will be held online on Monday, May 27th 2024 and is mandatory for all MMPT students.

“Inner Working of Academic Writing: Gateway Literature Review” is the main theme of discussion in this lecture with the main speaker, namely Prof. Gregory Ching, Associate Professor from National Cheng Chi University, Taiwan. The polemic regarding academic writing is very crucial among academics, both for lecturers and students, as a critical and systematic thinking process in conveying ideas.

“There is a great opportunity for us to be able to listen to the presentation of lecture material from Prof. Gregory Ching discussing academic writing. “The implementation of this lecture is the result of the initiation of collaboration between Gadjah Mada University, especially the Master of Higher Education Study Program, and National ChengChi University, Taiwan.” said Dr. Ir. R. Wahyu Supartono, Head of the MMPT Study Program who also moderated this event.

Prof. Gregory Ching provides tips and tricks for academic writing, especially for MMPT students who have an output in the form of a thesis final project. Writing requires a scientific effort so that there is a set of rules or standard formats such as references in a piece of writing. Determining a research topic is the first step before writing by exploring a phenomenon that is currently a trending topic and is interesting to study.

Literature review as a reference in academic writing has a term called IMRAD Structure which consists of Introduction, Method, Results, and Discussion/Conclusion and contains several elements such as Why, How, What, and So What. References contain information that refers to reference sources in the form of instructions or references.

Transfer of knowledge between Prof. Gregory Ching and MMPT students interactively carried out. Students shared their writing experiences very enthusiastically. It is hoped that the provision of lecture material in this session will be an effort to optimize writing skills for students in publishing their writing results.

This activity is in line with pillar 4 of the SDGs regarding the quality of education.
