The Dean of the Graduate School of UGM and the Chief of the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program welcomed 120 students and 4 lecturers from the Institut Teknologi Sumatera (ITERA) Lampung, in the Auditorium Room on the 5th floor of the Graduate School (SPs) UGM on Tuesday, October 29th 2024.

The group, led by Muhammad Artha Jabatsudewa Maras, M.T., is part of the Field Study Visit activity of the Biomedical Engineering Study Program of the Faculty of Industrial Technology ITERA to the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program at UGM’s Graduate School.

Some members of the group visited the Bachelor’s Program in Biomedical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and  the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program, following the opening ceremony and speeches from the Dean of SPs UGM and ITERA.

The Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., expressed her hopes for future collaboration in the Tri Dharma of Higher Education between SPs and ITERA. She also encouraged all participants to enjoy the city of Yogyakarta and the tourism it offers. “So, you can enjoy yourselves while being serious but relaxed during your time in Yogyakarta,” she said.

In agreement with the Dean, Muhammad Artha Jabatsudewa Maras, M.T., the Student Coordinator who is also responsible for the event, expressed his hopes for future collaboration between ITERA and SPs UGM.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program, Ir. Rini Dharmastiti, M.Sc., Ph.D., highlighted two important roles of Biomedical Science today.

“Biomedical Science is essential for designing medical equipment, which varies greatly, from hospital furniture and beds to tools used in clinics and even what exists within the human body,” she stated.

“The second aspect is understanding and modifying the control of biological systems, especially in the body. For example, simulating working systems of our bodies can help design solutions for problems,” she added.

This activity also aligns with SDGs Number 3, Healthy and Prosperous Lives, Number 4, Quality Education, Number 9, Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure, and Number 17, Partnerships to Achieve Goals.
