The Graduate School (SPs) of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) welcomed Mohammad Boroujerdi, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, on November 7th 2025. This visit marked Ambassador Boroujerdi’s first visit to UGM’s Graduate School.
The meeting took place in the Executive Meeting Room on the 2nd floor of the Graduate School and was attended by the Dean of SPs UGM, along with the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Student Affairs, and Cooperation. THere is also present from SPs, Dr. Samsul Maarif (Head of the Master’s Program in Religion and Cross-Cultural Studies) and Dr. Dicky Sofjan, who is both a lecturer and program coordinator.
During the meeting, both parties discussed various collaboration opportunities, particularly in joint research, education, and academic exchange programs between SPs UGM and higher education institutions in Iran. The discussion also highlighted the importance of strengthening cross-cultural and international academic networks to enrich scholarly perspectives.
The Dean of SPs UGM stated that the Graduate School is always open in building collaborations with international institutions. “We see great potential for cooperation with Iran, especially in developing cross-cultural studies, religious studies, and peace studies. SPs UGM is committed to create a space for global academic dialogue that contributes to humanity,” he said.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Boroujerdi emphasized the importance of educational cooperation between the two countries. “Iran and Indonesia share historical ties and similar cultural values. We believe that strong academic relations will further strengthen the friendship between our nations,” he remarked.
This visit is expected to serve as an initial step toward broader partnerships of SPs UGM with various universities in Iran, particularly in realizing research collaborations that contribute to the development of global knowledge.
The activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), through efforts to strengthen international collaboration in education and research.
