The Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), in collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK UGM), the Faculty of Dentistry (FKG UGM), and the Pinilih Disability Wellness Center (Rumah Kebugaran Difabel Pinilih or RKD Pinilih), organized a Community Service (PkM) activity in the form of Integrated Health Services for individuals with Cerebral Palsy (CP) and their caregivers. The event was held on Saturday, September 13th 2025, from 08:30 to 15:00 WIB at RKD Pinilih, Sedayu Sub-district, Bantul, Yogyakarta.
Types of Services
This event featured a range of health services designed to meet the needs of individuals with CP and their families, including Neurologist consultations (for individuals with CP), Physiotherapy services (up to 25 individuals with CP), Assistive device/technology consultations (for individuals with CP), Dental check-ups (for both individuals with CP and their caregivers), Basic laboratory tests (for both individuals with CP and their caregivers), General medical consultations (for caregivers of individuals with CP)
Participants and Implementation
The event involved 37 team members from UGM who provided services to 64 individuals with disabilities, not limited to those with cerebral palsy, and their families. The services were delivered smoothly with full support from the RKD Pinilih management, who coordinated the participant examination schedule.
The event was also attended by Argorejo Village Chief, Ngadimin, SH, and the Head of Sedayu II Community Health Center, Dr. Sistia Utami, M.Sc. Both expressed appreciation for the collaborative initiative to realize inclusive health services for people with disabilities.
Expectations
The PkM team leader, Dr. Rina Susilowati, Ph.D., expressed hope that this activity would create accessible, comprehensive, and sustainable health services for individuals with CP and their families. The cross-faculty, community, and local government collaboration is a tangible manifestation of UGM’s commitment to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities.
This initiative supports the achievement of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including SDG 3 – Good Health and Well-being: Enhancing inclusive and quality health service access for people with disabilities and their families. SDG 4 – Quality Education: Supporting service-learning opportunities for Master’s students in Biomedical Engineering through real-world community practice. SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities: Expanding access and reducing disparities in healthcare for vulnerable groups, especially individuals with cerebral palsy. SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals: Strengthening interdisciplinary collaboration between UGM, health facilities, communities, and local government.
