Yogyakarta (03/10/2024) – As part of the series of activities in Kampung Code, participants of the Globethics Doctoral School (GDS) 2024 visited various developing Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). This visit provided insights into locally-managed economic innovations, inspiring participants from different countries to see similar potential in their home regions.

The first visit was to Kampung Poktan (Farmer Group), where vacant land funded by local investors is being cultivated. The chief of the group, Mrs. Purwati, explained that this initiative aims to enable residents to utilize garden produce to meet their daily food needs. “With this land cultivation, we hope the community can be more self-sufficient in managing their food sources,” she stated.

Next, participants visited the Waste Bank Village, which processes waste into economically valuable products. They observed how plastic waste is transformed into items like woven bags, detergent made from used cooking oil, and organic fertilizer from organic waste. This innovation not only contributes to the economy but also raises environmental awareness in the community.

The final visit was to the Tourism Village, which successfully transformed the area into an attractive tourist destination. This project beautifies the environment while generating additional income for residents through eco-friendly tourism management. GDS participants are expected to bring inspiration from this visit and apply similar principles to build a sustainable economy in their regions. “Seeing how the community in Kampung Code utilizes local potential to enhance their economy is a valuable lesson for all of us,” said one participant. This activity underscores the importance of creating an inclusive and sustainable economy that leverages local potential and community collaboration.
