Faculty of Forestry (May 20) – A festive and proud atmosphere filled the gratitude ceremony celebrating the inauguration of Professor Prof. Dr. Ir. Widyanto Dwi Nugroho, S.Hut., M.Agr. in the field of Wood Science. The event took place on Tuesday, May 20th 2025, at the IFFLC, Faculty of Forestry, Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM).
The event followed his inaugural speech delivered earlier that morning at the Senate Hall, UGM Main Building, titled “The Role of Wood Science in the Development of Sustainable Tropical Forestry.”
Prof. Widyanto, who currently serves as the Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Cooperation at UGM’s Graduate School, is also a lecturer at the Faculty of Forestry, UGM. His inauguration as a professor marks a significant milestone in his academic journey and further strengthens the ranks of active professors at UGM, becoming the 529th active professor.
The Dean of the Faculty of Forestry UGM, Ir. Sigit Sunarta, S.Hut., M.P., M.Sc., Ph.D., IPU., in his remarks, expressed his congratulations on this achievement.
“On behalf of the Faculty of Forestry, we congratulate you on this accomplishment, and we hope that soon more professor inaugurations from our faculty will follow,” he stated.
“Prof. Widi will become a key figure in the Faculty of Forestry, especially in the field of wood science, where the challenges are significant. The role of wood science is extraordinary — for instance, in the development of forensic wood science, which is increasingly discussed nowadays, especially in civil and criminal disputes involving developers who use wood. Ultimately, it is wood science itself that can provide answers about the types of wood involved,” he added.
This gratitude ceremony symbolized both appreciation and motivation for the academic community to continue contributing to the advancement of knowledge, particularly in sustainable and multidisciplinary forestry.
The event also aligns with the implementation of SDG Goal 4 on Quality Education and Goal 17 on Partnerships for the Goals.
