Yogyakarta, April 25th 2025 — Several graduate students from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) participated in a Publication Workshop held for three consecutive days from April 23rd to 25th 2025, at the Graduate School Building, 5th Floor. This activity served as an important moment for students to improve and maximize their opportunities for publishing their scientific works in reputable international journals. Throughout the event, participants from various programs, ranging from master’s to doctoral levels, had the chance to meet directly with their supervisors such as Dr. Yohanes Tri Mastoyo, M.Hum., an expert in language and literature, as well as Prof. Dr. Apt. Sismindari, SU., a specialist in pharmaceuticals. They were guided on to write scientific articles that meet international standards, including structure, writing style, citation techniques, and selecting target journals. During the activity, participants from different fields studied topics such as Siti Munfiah’s environmental focus on biomarkers and their impact on cognitive abilities, Wahyu Ratnaningsih’s research on the kinetics of hexavalent chromium removal using corn cob-based activated carbon modified with nitric acid, and Lina Agustina Pujiwati’s analysis of livelihood strategies and their influence on multidimensional poverty in Indonesia.
One doctoral student attending the workshop expressed, “This activity really helped me understand what I need to improve my article to be published. I feel more confident and aware of the steps I should take to make my article suitable for international journal publication.” Ika Ristiyani Madyaningrum, a doctoral student in Tourism Studies, added, “I received direct feedback from my supervisor, such as Dr. Yohanes Tri Mastoyo and Prof. Sismindari. This made my article more mature and aligned with international journal standards.” The workshop was not merely technical guidance but also a platform for collaboration that strengthens the research and publication ecosystem among students. “With this workshop, I got direct feedback from reviewers and supervisors, helping me refine my article to meet international standards,” said another participant.
This activity aligns with the university’s efforts to support the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. Through this mentorship, students are expected to accelerate their publication processes and contribute actively in improving Indonesia’s research quality on the global stage. The Dean of UGM’s Graduate School, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, expressed her hope that this activity could continue regularly. “We want students not only to write to complete their theses but also to publish their work so it can have a broad impact and benefit society,” she stated.
UGM demonstrates its commitment, with this initiative, in supporting students to become competitive researchers on a global scale. The spirit of collaboration and innovation showcased in this publication workshop is hoped to act as a catalyst for the emergence of Indonesia’s future researchers and scientists capable of competing internationally.
