Kampung Code in Yogyakarta became one of the destinations for the participants of the Globethics Doctoral School (GDS) 2024, held on Thursday, October 3rd 2024. This visit was part of a series of GDS activities themed “Nurturing Ethical Leadership and Promoting Young Talents at the Highest Level.” This event, participants were expected to develop the knowledge, skills, and values needed to address ethical dilemmas and contribute to positive social transformation.
Guided by Dicky Sofjan, M.A., MPP., Ph.D., the visit to Kampung Code provided insights to the participants on how this community, once known for its dense population and significant social challenges, has now become a successful example of social transformation. The participants were invited to understand how ethical leadership and strong collaboration between residents, the government, and social organizations can transform such areas into healthier and more livable spaces for its inhabitants.
During the visit, the participants interacted directly with the managers of Kampung Code, listened to stories of social change that have taken place, and learned how ethical leadership can bring about real changes in daily life. This visit served as an important reflection for GDS participants to see how ethical values are applied in a local context and how leaders can play a key role in addressing social challenges in various communities.
Dicky Sofjan, who accompanied the visit, emphasized that strong ethical leadership is not just about making the right decisions but also about providing inspiration and setting an example for others. “Through this visit, we all learn that positive social change can start from small actions, and ethical leaders are those who dare to initiate such changes within their own communities,” he stated.
This event was not only an opportunity to learn but also to directly absorb the values of humanity and ethical leadership in a real context, which the participants are expected to apply in their own environments. The Globethics Doctoral School 2024 aims to prepare a new generation of young leaders capable of making a positive impact on global society.
