The Population Master Program at the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) serves as an academic platform that encourages students to understand social dynamics, demography, and the challenges of sustainable development in the global era. Supported by experienced faculty members and an international research network. This program equips students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address complex population issues.
The interdisciplinary approach guided students to critically analyze population changes, migration, health, and employment. Graduates of this program are expected to become academics, researchers, or practitioners who can produce meaningful contributions to data-driven and research-based policy formulation.
Beyond classroom learning the Population Master Program regularly organizes academic training and workshops. Such activity was the “Workshop on Strategies for Writing Articles in High-Reputation International Journals” held on August 29th 2025, in Room C202, Building C, Puspic, Faculty of Geography. The workshop featured a highly competent and professional speaker, Prof. Dr. Sri Rum Giyarsih, S.Si., M.Si.
This event served as an important platform for students to enhance their scientific publication capacity. The workshop provided in-depth insights into manuscript preparation, understanding the peer review process, and strategies to get academic work published in globally indexed, reputable journals.
“This workshop truly broadened our understanding of strategies for writing articles in international journals, from crafting a well-structured manuscript to grasping the dynamics of the review process. The materials presented were highly practical and relevant to today’s academic needs,” said Hannifa Irmajihan Nabilla, one of the workshop participants.
Another perspective highlighted the close interaction of the speaker and participants in a positive and engaging atmosphere. Students were actively asking questions, while the speaker responded patiently and meticulously. An intellectual ambiance was evident from the participants’ serious expressions as they attentively observed and listened — every sentence spoken was a crucial key in their academic journey.
A group photo of the speaker and workshop participants captured an image of academic dignity. The smiles on each face were not merely expressions of togetherness, but a reflection of the intellectual enthusiasm fostered throughout the learning process. This event was oriented toward broader academic achievements and served as a tangible representation of the Population Master Program efforts to encourage academics to contribute to global scientific discourse.
