Yogyakarta, October 15th 2025 – The Population Studies Doctoral Program, Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada, organized a training session aimed at improving students’ ability to write scientific articles and publish them in international journals. The event took place in Room C202, Building C PUSPIC, Faculty of Geography.

Prof. Dr. Sri Rum Giyarsih, S.Si., M.Si., Chief of the Population Studies Doctoral Program, served as the main speaker, delivering an engaging presentation on scientific writing techniques. Prof. Sri Rum explained strategies for crafting academic articles while paying close attention to each journal’s specific style and formatting guidelines. This knowledge serves as a valuable foundation for students preparing to publish their own scientific papers.

The training also aimed to assist doctoral students in meeting one of the program’s graduation requirements — producing a publication in an international journal as part of their dissertation research output. This requirement presents its own challenges, especially given the diverse educational and professional backgrounds of the students.

This challenge has not diminished the students’ enthusiasm to continue producing and publishing scientific works as a way to share knowledge able to be accessed by the wider public, particularly those seeking references in the field of population studies.

The session ran lively and productively, featuring interactive discussions of the speaker and the participants. It is hoped that this activity will have a lasting impact, especially for doctoral students currently working to publish their dissertation research as scientific articles in international journals.
