Enhancing Innovation and Research, BME Department Holds Field Study to PT. Philips, Nano Center, and IMERI UI Jakarta

A total of 24 students, 1 program head, and 2 staff members from the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program at the Graduate School of UGM participated in a Field Study held for two days, Thursday and Friday, November 14th to 15th 2024. This activity was initiated by the Chief of the Biomedical Engineering Master’s Program to provide learning opportunities related to innovation and research in the field of biomedical engineering.

The visits were carried out at PT. Philips Healthcare Indonesia on Jl. TB Simatupang, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, in the afternoon, followed by a visit to Nano Center Indonesia, Jl. Raya Puspitek No.A-12 Setu, Tangerang, Banten. On the second day, the group continued their visit to the Indonesian Medical Education and Research Institute (IMERI) at the University of Indonesia (UI), Jl. Salemba Raya No. 6, Central Jakarta.

The first day’s visit was conducted at PT. Philips Healthcare Indonesia, the group was welcomed by the President Director of PT. Philips, Astri R. Darmawan, along with her team.

As Astri explained, PT. Philips is very focused on healthcare and is highly relevant to the field of Biomedical Science. She added that currently, PT. Philips aims to contribute more in Indonesia across various fields, including diagnostic imaging, connected care, AI, and personal healthcare. “We hope that with this complete portfolio and our commitment in Indonesia, we can contribute more,” she said.

In the afternoon, the group continued their visit to Nano Center Indonesia, where they were welcomed by Dr. Etik Mardliati, Arramel Ph.D., and other staff. During this meeting, they explained the available laboratory facilities, the various research being conducted, and the potential for research collaborations.

Similarly, during the visit to IMERI UI, the students were taken to the Medical Technology Lab, followed by a visit to the Molecular Biology and Proteomics Core Facilities (MBPCF) and the Indonesia Museum of Health and Medicine, after being welcomed in a meeting room.

This activity is also in line with the implementation of SDG Goal 4 on Quality Education, as well as Goal 17 on Partnerships to achieve the objectives.
