On Friday, May 31st, 2024, the Master Program in Performing Arts and Fine Arts Studies (PSPSR Program), Graduate School, Gadjah Mada University (UGM), held the second series of scientific writing titled “Ins and Outs of Scientific Journal Writing”, after successfully organizing the first series on May 3rd, 2024. This event was attended by approximately 30 PSPSR Program students, held at Classroom 203, Unit II, Graduate School Building of UGM.

The aim of the scientific writing series is to enhance the ability of PSPSR master’s students to write quality scientific articles for publication in international journals. The event was opened by the Chair of the PSPSR Master’s Program, Dr. Rr. Paramitha Dyah Fitriasari, followed by the material session. The speaker for the material session was Prof. Nurdiana Gaus, S.S., PGDIP., Ph.D. Prof. Diana is a lecturer in the Master Program in Higher Education Management (MMPT) who actively publishes articles in reputable international journals and has an h-index value of 7.

Prof. Diana shared tips on how to write a good article to be published in reputable international journals such as Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) indexed journals. “The most important part of the article is the introduction. Writing a proper introduction will make it easier for us as authors to organize the subsequent sections,” said Prof. Diana.

In addition in discussing the structure of a good article, Prof. Diana also shared her experience of submitting articles to reputable international journals. For Prof. Diana, having her article rejected is common, but it becomes valuable feedback for improving the article because the review provided is very constructive. Choosing the right scientific journal also greatly influences whether an article is accepted or not. Prof. Diana advised students to submit articles to journals that are relevant to their research topics.

After the material presentation by Prof. Diana, a one-hour question and answer session followed. Students actively asked questions and were motivated to publish articles in international journals. The scientific writing series organized by the PSPSR Program is an effort to improve the quality of basic education and literacy skills among master program students. The program contributes to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals in education and global partnerships by disseminating the necessary knowledge for publishing high-quality research articles.
