Dr. Auliana Afandi Awarded Double PhD Program Certificate of Completion: A Testament to the Collaboration Between SPs UGM and Gifu University

Yogyakarta, April 21st 2025 — The Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) held a certificate awarding ceremony for Dr. Auliana Afandi, marking the successful completion of the Double PhD Program. This event highlights the academic collaboration between the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology at SPs UGM and the Management of Biological Environment Study Program at The United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Gifu University, Japan.

The event was officially opened by the Dean of SPs UGM, Prof. Ir. Siti Malkhamah, M.Sc., Ph.D., who expressed her appreciation for the success of this collaborative program. “This Double PhD Program is a strategic step by UGM to expand its international network and produce excellent researchers who can compete globally,” she stated.

Further remarks were delivered by the Head of the Doctoral Program in Biotechnology, Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, S.Si., M.Sc., who emphasized the importance of synergy between institutions in creating impactful research. She highlighted that Dr. Auliana’s achievement is a tangible proof of shared commitment to enhancing academic and research quality across borders.

Dr. Auliana’s main supervisor, Prof. Dr. Ir. Siti Subandiyah, M.Agr.Sc., also delivered a speech, expressing her pride in her student’s achievements and her hope that Dr. Auliana would continue contributing to the academic and research fields in biotechnology. She also expressed hopes for a more applicable formula for future double degree programs.

The certificate handover ceremony was held solemnly and was attended by members of the SPs UGM academic community and Gifu University representatives who joined virtually. This event marked the first successful implementation of a Double PhD Program by UGM’s Doctoral Program in Biotechnology with an international partner.
