The Halal Economics and Industry Doctoral Program (PIIH), Graduate School (SPs), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), held a Research Workshop titled “Exploring Decolonization and Ontology in Islamic Business Research.”
The event took place on Friday, August 15th 2025, at 09:00 AM (WIB) in Meeting Room A, 5th Floor, Graduate School Building, UGM.
This workshop was specifically designed for students of the PIIH Doctoral Program, particularly new PhD students who are about to take the Research Methodology and Research Workshop for Specialization courses. Attendance was mandatory as an initial orientation to help students design and develop academic research in the field of halal economics and industry.
Two speakers were present at the event, providing in-depth insights into conceptual frameworks in Islamic business research.
Nofie Imama, Ph.D., delivered a presentation titled “Understanding Decolonization as a Thinking Lens,” which emphasized the importance of freeing Islamic business studies from the dominance of Western paradigms.
Meanwhile, Rocky Adiguna, Ph.D., presented on “How to Differentiate Ontology, Epistemology, and Methodology in Research”, offering conceptual foundations for students to design academically robust research.
This workshop is hoped that PIIH doctoral students will gain a more comprehensive understanding of the roles of ontology and decolonization in Islamic business research. This will enable them to develop relevant, critical, and wide-reaching research, impacting on both scientific advancement and the practical development of the halal industry in Indonesia.
