Yogyakarta, May 13th 2025 – students of the Disaster Management (MMB) Master Program, Graduate School of Gadjah Mada University (SPs UGM) became one of the initiators of disaster mitigation education activities carried out in Kebur Lor Hamlet, Argomulyo Village, Cangkringan District, Sleman Regency. This activity was attended by 40 local residents, especially mothers from the Dasawisma group.
This education is one of the representations of the Community and Family Health Care Interprofessional Education (CFHC IPE) Program of Gadjah Mada University (UGM) which is a collaboration of the Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FK-KMK) UGM and the Disaster Management (MMB) Master Program with a cross-disciplinary approach.
Kebur Lor Hamlet is located in the Disaster Prone Area (KRB) of Mount Merapi and is one of the intervention locations due to its vulnerability to volcanic eruptions. The disaster mitigation education carried out is oriented towards health services, and responsive strategies through educational, promotive, and preventive approaches.
Dr. Daniel, M.Sc., a lecturer at FKKMK UGM said that building community resilience requires real collaboration as carried out by students from FKKMK UGM and the MMB SPs UGM Program based on multidisciplinary.
In this session, Muhamad Irfan Nurdiansyah, a student of the MMB Study Program, delivered contextual disaster mitigation material that is easy for the public to understand. The education delivered to the public included the dangers of Merapi to the practice of preparing disaster preparedness bags. The material delivery session was carried out interactively and was easy for the public to understand.
This activity is a synergy between faculties and study programs at UGM in providing an understanding to the public about the importance of disaster mitigation and proper health care, especially for people on the slopes of Mount Merapi. This is a real step for all parties involved, both students and local residents, to continue to share and deeply learn about the importance of disaster mitigation.
