Gadjah Mada University, through the Postgraduate School Biotechnology Masters and Doctoral Study Program, has organized special short course and workshop activities for 30 high school biology teachers in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). This activity aims to increase the competence of teachers in the field of biotechnology.

Held on 7-8 August 2024 in the Biotechnology Classroom of the PAU UGM Building, this event presents various material related to biotechnology which is expected to help teachers deliver lessons better. With the knowledge gained, teachers are expected to be able to provide a clear and interesting picture of biotechnology to their students.

“We hope that this activity can become a forum for teachers to strengthen their knowledge on biotechnology, which is currently a very dynamic and important field of science. By understanding the concepts and techniques of biotechnology, teachers can convey this material better to their students thereby equipping them with relevant knowledge for the future,” said Dr. Tri Rini Nuringtyas, S.Sc., M.Sc., Chief of the Biotechnology Doctoral Study Program.

Dr. Dini Wahyu Kartika Sari, S.Pi., M.Sc., The Chief of the Biotechnology Master’s Study Program also said that this workshop was designed to provide practical experience that can be directly applied in the teaching and learning process. “We try to create an interactive and collaborative learning atmosphere, so that participants can share knowledge and experiences with each other.”

Through this initiative, Gadjah Mada University is committed to contributing to advancing education in Indonesia, especially in improving the quality of Biology education at the high school level in Yogyakarta. It is hoped that the results of this activity will have a positive impact on students’ understanding of biotechnology, so that they can broaden their horizons in the field of science. This activity is a concrete step for UGM to support the development of quality and relevant education in the modern era.
