Artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly evolving and increasingly integrated into various aspects of life, including education. AI has great potential to revolutionize the way we learn and teach, creating a more effective and personalized learning environment. In the modern era, AI functions not only as a tool but also as a partner that can significantly support the educational process.
Delving deeper into the utilization of AI in education, the Graduate School of Universitas Gadjah Mada (SPs UGM) organized a Scientific Writing Workshop on August 21st and 22nd 2024. The second day, the event featured four expert speakers who shared their insights and experiences. One of the most intriguing topics was how AI can be used to enhance learning effectiveness, presented by Dr. Irwan Endrayanto Aluicius, S.Si., M.Sc., Head of the Academic Studies Division at the Directorate of Academic Studies and Innovation at UGM.
Irwan explained, “Artificial intelligence is not just a tool, but also a partner in the learning process. With the right approach, AI can help create a more effective and personalized learning environment.” Irwan further highlighted various AI applications that have been implemented in the education sector, such as educational data analysis, personalized learning materials, and AI-based learning assessments.
Irwan also emphasized the importance of balancing technology use with data privacy protection. “AI offers many opportunities to improve access and quality of education, but we must also be vigilant about potential risks, especially concerning student data privacy and security,” he added.
The workshop participants were also introduced to various AI tools that have been integrated into the academic processes at UGM, such as Elicit for literature search, Genei.io for key point highlighting, and ChatGPT for content creation and data analysis. The use of these tools is expected to help lecturers and students increase productivity and the quality of learning.
This workshop served as an important platform for SPs UGM to demonstrate its commitment to facilitating the academic development of participants and supporting educational innovation through the use of cutting-edge technology.
