The Tourism Doctoral Program at the Graduate School of UGM held a PhD Day at Sambi Resort, Pakem, on Friday, October 25th 2024. This event was attended by all students and staff of the  Tourism Doctoral Program aimed at monitoring the learning progress of doctoral students across all batch years.

As stated by the Chief of The Tourism Doctoral Program, Drs. Hendrie Adji Kusworo, M.Sc., Ph.D., in his opening remarks, “The purpose of holding PhD Day is to monitor students’ learning progress and to accelerate the academic journey of each student and motivate them to continue progressing in their studies.”

PhD Day is expected to serve as a platform for sharing knowledge, experiences, and building networks among students and faculty.

The attending students were divided into six groups based on similar progress levels after the briefing. Each group was guided by two faculty members or promoters/co-promoters as facilitators.

Students had the opportunity to consult on various matters, including their research progress and the challenges they faced during their studies, while also exchanging ideas with fellow students during the Focus Group Discussion (FGD) session.

In the midst of the activities, a break was provided for rest and prayer, during which students engaged in conversations and jokes with each other and the staff. PhD Day served as an academic discussion forum and as a means to strengthen relationships among fellow batch years and share learning experiences. The event ran smoothly and was enjoyable.

The event concluded with presentations of discussion results from each group, along with feedback and suggestions for improving the Tourism Doctoral Program.

Khoirul Mujazanah, one of the participants, stated that participating in this event increased his motivation and renewed his determination to continue and complete his studies.

This activity also aligns with the implementation of SDGs Number 4 on Quality Education and Number 7.
