Saturday, May 2nd 2026 — The commemoration ceremony of National Education Day was held solemnly at Universitas Gadjah Mada. The event was attended by university leaders, lecturers, and administrative staff from various units.

Held at the Central Office Courtyard of UGM, the ceremony began at 07:00 WIB with the raising of the Indonesian flag, accompanied by the national anthem Indonesia Raya. The atmosphere was orderly and solemn, reflecting the commitment of the UGM academic community to advancing education.

The Rector of UGM, in his address, emphasized the importance of education as the primary foundation for national development. Education serves not only as a means of knowledge transfer but also as a platform for shaping character, integrity, and social responsibility. He also highlighted that current global challenges require members of the education sector to be adaptive, innovative, and steadfast in upholding national values.

The appreciation was given to members of the academic community through the awarding of the Satya Lencana Karya Satya to 112 civil servants, consisting of lecturers and administrative staff. The awards were given in recognition of their 30, 20, and 10 years of service at Universitas Gadjah Mada.

This National Education Day momentum is expected to serve as a reminder for all elements of society to continue playing an active role in improving the quality of education in Indonesia. The ceremony concluded with a collective prayer, expressing hope for continued progress in education and the development of globally competitive future generations.
