The world of education is currently undergoing a significant transformation with the advent of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This technology facilitates various academic activities such as writing scientific papers, coding websites, and presenting important information. The Master and Doctoral Program in Leadership and Policy Innovation (MDKIK), Graduate School (SPs), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) held a training session titled “Utilizing ChatGPT for Data Analysis” on Monday (September 23) at the Masri Singarimbun Auditorium in response to this technological change.
This training is part of a series focused on data processing aimed at equipping MDKIK students with skills to understand the uses and benefits of emerging technologies for research activities. The resource person for this event was Dr. Hakimul Ikhwan, M.A., a lecturer from the Department of Sociology at UGM. In addition to providing conceptual knowledge to students, he also shared practical experiences in using ChatGPT.
In his presentation, Dr. Hakimul explained that there are many uses of ChatGPT in assisting our research, including: helping to explain and interpret data analysis results; formulating hypotheses based on existing data or relationships between variables; providing guidance on statistical methods; and assisting in the preparation of research reports, including effective data presentation.
Dr. Hakimul emphasized the importance of integrating technology into educational practices, including the use of ChatGPT. Students can enhance the efficiency and accuracy of their research, allowing them to focus more on critical thinking and analysis rather than getting bogged down in data processing tasks.
In addition to providing technical skills, this training also focused on ethical considerations in using ChatGPT. Dr. Hakimul reminded students to maintain integrity and transparency in their research, especially when utilizing data generated by ChatGPT. This aspect is crucial in fostering a responsible approach to technology in the academic world.
